Let’s explore how individuals with special needs in New Jersey can effectively utilize their budget provided by the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD). Here are some key points to consider:
1. DDD Programs in New Jersey:
DDD offers two primary programs for eligible individuals:
1) Supports Program (SP): Anyone eligible for DDD services may enroll in this program.
2) Community Care Program (CCP): This program has a waitlist and additional eligibility rules. Individuals must be on the CCP Waiting List or be determined by DDD to be at imminent risk of homelessness. Additionally, they must require ICF/ID Level of Care (Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities).
Most people served by DDD are in the SP.
2. Understanding the DDD Budget:
The DDD budget is not actual money given directly to individuals. Instead, they work with a support coordination agency to determine how to use the budget.
DDD services are provided on a fee-for-service basis.
3. Service Options:
Individuals can spend their budget on DDD-approved providers and agencies or choose Self-Directed Services:
Self-Directed Services: Individuals find their own providers or programs.
Note that there are additional requirements when choosing self-direction.
4. Services Available Through the Budget:
Day Services (including employment-related services and day programs).
Community-based supports (SP) or Individual supports (CCP).
Other services/supports may include:
Assistive Technology
Behavioral Supports
Environmental Modifications
Goods and Services
Interpreter Services
Natural Supports
